What owners say after working with us
These are honest reflections from small business owners across Malaysia who have taken part in our programmes. We share them as they were given, without embellishment.
Back to HomeOwner reflections on the advisory experience
Zainudin Ariffin
Petaling Jaya — Retail
"I went in thinking I had a staffing problem. After an hour with Nadia I realised the staffing thing was a symptom, not the issue. The written summary she sent afterwards is still on my desk two months later."

Shah Alam — F&B
"The Season Plan programme helped me understand my pricing better than anything else I'd tried. Syafiq was patient in the sessions and didn't push me toward conclusions I wasn't ready for. I found that genuinely useful."
April 2025 — Season Plan AdvisoryChan Wei Liang
Cheras — Professional Services
"I've been on the Whole Almanac programme for four months. What I didn't expect was how much it would change how I think about decisions during the month — not just in the sessions themselves. Having someone to check in with matters."
May 2025 — Whole AlmanacRosnah Abdullah
Ampang — Creative Studio
"I was nervous about bringing an outsider into my business. But the First Page Review was quiet and comfortable, nothing like I'd imagined. I came away with a short list of things to consider, which was exactly what I needed."

Subang Jaya — Education
"The written summary was more useful than I expected. I've shared it with my business partner and we've referred back to it a few times already. It's written plainly, which helps."

Klang — Light Manufacturing
"I'm not someone who usually trusts outside opinions on my business. But Amira asked the right questions and never tried to push me toward a solution. That made the difference. I'd recommend the process to other owners who feel the same way."
April 2025 — Whole AlmanacThree owner journeys, told plainly
A café owner uncertain about expansion
The owner of a mid-size café in Bangsar was being offered a second location by their landlord. They weren't sure whether the timing was right, whether the cash flow would support it, or whether they had the team to manage two sites.
Over two sessions in the Season Plan Advisory, we looked at the current site's margins, the realistic staffing requirement for a second location, and the seasonal pattern of their cash flow. We made no recommendation either way — but helped the owner see the numbers clearly.
The owner chose to delay the expansion by one season to build a slightly larger cash reserve. They felt the decision was their own, and they felt more settled about it than before the advisory sessions. The written plan now guides their preparation for the second opening.
Season Plan Advisory — Bangsar, 2025A services firm with unclear pricing
An owner of a small event management company in Damansara had been charging similar rates to competitors for three years. Costs had increased, but they were reluctant to raise prices without understanding whether existing clients would leave.
In the First Page Review, we worked through the cost structure together and identified that the business was operating at a margin too thin for the workload involved. We helped the owner think through how a pricing change could be communicated to existing clients.
The owner adjusted their rates for new clients and selectively for existing ones. Most clients accepted the change without comment. The owner described the session as "giving me permission to ask for what the work is actually worth."
First Page Review — Damansara, 2025A long-running family business at a transition point
A second-generation family trading company in Klang was approaching a period where the founding owner was stepping back and their son was taking on more responsibility. The handover felt unplanned and a little tense.
Through the Whole Almanac programme, we met monthly with both the founder and the incoming owner — sometimes together, sometimes separately. We helped build a structured transition plan and a shared understanding of the goals for the business in the next two years.
The transition took place over eight months. Both parties describe the process as clearer and less fraught than it might have been. The incoming owner now leads the business and continues the Whole Almanac programme independently.
